Here are 10 things you should know:

First, as of Sunday, February 28th, we have grown to 389 Members! We are almost at our goal of reaching 400 Members by March 30th!!! Also, I want to thank the Daily Record for featuring me and my Baltimore Means Business accelerator at Morgan State University Earl Graves School of Business. Click here to read the article. Second, on March 11th you are invited to learn more about the Baltimore Main Streets: The Avenue Market Project. This meeting is scheduled to offer in-depth information about The Avenue Market project (Pennsylvania Avenue Main Street) and recruitment of new vendors (Small, Minority, Women Veterans) for the venue. Carry-Out, Baked Goods, Merchandise, Produce and Service Vendors are invited to attend and hear special Guest Presenter, Jayson Williams, CEO of Mayson-Dixon Companies give details. Third, Kiva will be hosting their 3rd Annual Pitch Competition via Zoom on March 4th from 5:30-7pm! The event will begin with some time for networking and then officially start at 6pm with opening remarks. After remarks, the actual competition will begin where five Kiva entrepreneurs will compete for the following prizes: 1st place- $3,000 | 2nd Place- $1,500 | 3rd Place- $1,000. See you there! 

Fourth, the Biden Administration recently announced some key changes to PPP:

  1. Starting last Wednesday, the SBA will only accept loan applications from firms with fewer than 20 employees for a 2-week period.
  2. Starting this week, March 1st, the SBA will revise the loan amount calculation to allow sole-proprietors and independent contractors to receive larger amounts.
  3. Also starting this week, business owners who are non-citizen lawful residents with ITINs will be eligible to apply.
  4. Additionally, starting this week, business owners with prior non-fraud felony convictions will be eligible to apply.

The SBA has compiled the information you need to better understand all the new PPP and EIDL options. Click here to read the latest updates. Additionally, please talk to your tax professional regarding the tax ramifications of receiving a federal, state or local business grant or loan. The guidelines have changed over the last few months, so please make certain you are making an informed decision. Contact Chamber Member, Kimberly Royster for assistance.

Fifth, M&T Bank is hosting an important webinar on Monday, March 1st (today at 1:30pm) on the Paycheck Protection Program. Click here to register. Ninth, Loyola University has invited me to participate on a panel on March 10th as a part of their “Building a Better World Through Business” series. This annual event celebrates the ways that businesses create sustainable economic and social development in their communities. The 2021 event series will be held virtually throughout March. All events are free and open to Loyola students, faculty, staff, alumni, the Baltimore community, and friends of the University. Registration is required for all events.
